Natalie O’Loughlin is a Gadigal/Sydney based
artist who works across ceramics and installation to explore the expressive
potential of the vessel as an embodied form. Deliberately asymmetrical, curved
yet angular, her works find their shape through constant bodily negotiations.
Celebrated in striking conical formations, O’Loughlin describes the practice of
working with clay as a process of learning and unlearning in response to the
material's inherent qualities.
Natalie’s surfaces are imprinted with marks
from her hand, transferring felt impressions from one living vessel to
another. In this way, her sculptures can be understood as containers that hold
space for ongoing conversations while reconsidering the intrinsic value of
function.
